18th Edition Mock Test (C&G 2382-26)
The City & Guilds 2382-26 exam checks that you can find your way around BS 7671:2018+A4:2026, the current 18th Edition of the IET Wiring Regulations, and apply what it says to real installations. It is the qualification most electricians are asked for when they update to a new amendment, and many employers and competent person schemes expect it.
Our mock tests copy the format of the real paper as closely as we can: the same number of questions, the same time limit and the same open book rules. Every question is written from scratch by us from the regulations themselves, so you are practising the skill the exam is really testing: finding the right regulation, table or definition quickly and reading it carefully.

Who this mock test is for
If you hold an older 2382 certificate and need to update to Amendment 4, these mocks help you find out which parts of the book you are slow with before exam day. If you are newer to the trade and sitting 2382 for the first time, they give you a safe place to learn the layout of BS 7671 and get used to working against the clock.
The exam is open book, so you are not expected to memorise the regulations. What catches people out is time. Sixty questions in two hours sounds generous, but looking up a table, checking a footnote and reading four similar answers takes longer than you think. Sitting a full timed mock is the quickest way to find your own pace.
Tips for the open book exam
Know the structure of the book. Parts 1 to 7 follow a logical order: scope and fundamental principles, definitions, assessment of general characteristics, protection for safety, selection and erection, inspection and testing, and special installations or locations. The appendices hold many of the tables you will need. If you know roughly where a topic lives, you save minutes on every question.
Tab your book if your exam centre allows it, and read the question twice. Many wrong answers come from missing a word like "not", "minimum" or "maximum". When two options look right, go back to the exact wording of the regulation rather than relying on memory.
Flag questions you are unsure about and come back to them. Our mocks let you do the same, so you can practise that habit before the real thing.
What changed with Amendment 4
BS 7671:2018+A4:2026 brought in new material such as Chapter 57 on stationary secondary batteries and Section 716 on Power over Ethernet, along with revisions across Part 7 and to the model forms. Our questions follow Amendment 4 wherever it differs from older guidance. Read our Amendment 4 guide for a plain English summary of the changes.
